Authority: You Have Overcome

Authority: You Have Overcome

"I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world (John 16:33)."
God has the power and we have the authority over our enemies! Authority is delegated power. "I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you. Luke 10:19. Let me repeat, we have authority over our enemies, but not over God. We can't force God do what we want him to do, our spirit and our hearts is to be humble and obedient to God; but with the devil, our spirit is to be stern, read Mark 1:21-29.

The Bible tells us, our struggles is not against anything carnal.  For example, if a person is struggling with porn, their struggle is not the porn nor the person's flesh, it's the person's spirit. An evil spirit is motivating his spirit. Rebuke the evil spirit, and the struggle will disappear. Resist the devil (who is an evil spirit), and he will flee. "For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms." Ephesians 6:12 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world. 1 John 4:4
How do we overcome against the devil and the devil's evil spirits?
1. "Be strong in the Lord and in his might power." Ephesians 6:10.We are to be strong IN THE LORD and HIS MIGHT! It doesn't say be strong in your own might or in your own power but God's. Glory be to God, all we have to do is believe in God's strength and might, and then use the authority that God has given us. So if you're in a situation that looks like there's no way out, it's because you're using your own strength and might. Number 2, will show you how to use God's strength and might...

2. "Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes." - Ephesians 6:11. According to Ephesians 6:10-18, we are to stand firm then:
  • With the belt of truth buckled around our waist. [the word of God]
  • With the breastplate of righteousness in place [Philippians 1:11]
  • With your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
  • Take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
  • Take the helmet of salvation
  • Take the sword of the Spirit [which is the word of God]
3. Pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.

How are believers supposed to use their God given authority over the devil?
Peter: Peter looked straight at him, as did John. Then Peter said, “Look at us!” So the man gave them his attention, expecting to get something from them. Then Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you. In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, walk.”Taking him by the right hand, he helped him up, and instantly the man’s feet and ankles became strong. He jumped to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and jumping, and praising God. Acts 3:4-8

Paul: In Lystra there sat a man who was lame. He had been that way from birth and had never walked. He listened to Paul as he was speaking. Paul looked directly at him, saw that he had faith to be healed and called out, “Stand up on your feet!” At that, the man jumped up and began to walk. Acts 14:8-10
