There is a difference between Godly fear which is reverence for God, and the demonic spirit of fear which is a demonic spirit that influences us not to believe the word of God. Paul tells us in 2 Timothy 1:7 that the Spirit God that gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. The greek word fear used in 2 Timothy 1:7 is deilia (di-lee'-ah) is defined as timidity, fearfulness, cowardice. Timidity is defined as lack of courage or confidence.

Signs that we're fearing
  1. Rushing God for an answer: If we're in a hurry, it is most likely not God speaking.” God doesn’t live in time, we do.  "He that believeth shall not make haste.” - Isaiah 28:16
  2. Meditating on the problem: If we believe that we have a job, are we going to continuously meditate about not having a job? There will be no reason to, because we have a job.
How to overcome fear
  1. Repent to God: When we fear, we are telling and showing God that we don't trust him. Faith and fear are opposite forces they cancel one another out. For clarification of how we can grow our faith, check out the faith teaching series
  2. We have to make up in mind not to worry: This is a decision that will lead to action, the more that we do it the more it will become fluidLuke 21:14 reads "But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves." When we read the verses before this, we would know that Jesus was telling his disciples that they will be persecuted, and this is how we handle it.
  3. We have to speak what the bible says about us: In order to do this, we have to know what the bible says, thus we have to read it. In Matthew 4:1-11 we read that when the devil tempted Jesus, he resisted the devil by SPEAKING the word of God. Jesus used the word of God to refute each LIE the devil was tempting him with.
