Who are you hearing; God | Flesh | or the Enemy?

Who are you hearing; God | Flesh | or the Enemy?

One of the most difficult things that I had to learn in my Christian walk is how to distinguish between if I’m hearing from God, my flesh, or the enemy.

What I’ve learned by trial and error is as follows:

God
The best way to know if God is speaking to you, is to remain in Godly love, Godly peace, and Godly rest. When you're operating in those three things, you will not be easily deceived by your flesh or the enemy.

When God speaks to us, everything that he says will be biblical; meaning he will never tell us do anything that contradict his word.

God speaks to us in various ways; we are taught and lead mostly through the Holy Spirit. Jesus in John 14:26 says the Holy Spirit is our helper and he teaches us all things and brings us into the remembrance of all that Jesus Christ has said to us.  God also speaks to us through other people. What I have realized is that a lot of time people don’t even realize what they’re saying is exactly what I needed to hear. I actually like the fact that they don’t know it. God also speaks to us through visions and dreams, as well as angels. No matter which method God chooses to speak to us by, it will always be a word(message) that comes from the word of God. ALWAYS!

Spirit
You are a spirit. You live in a body(flesh). You have a soul(emotions). Since God is a spirit, he has to communicate with us through our spirit, which is why he has given us the choice to choose to be lead by the Holy Spirit (his Spirit). If you (the spirit) are lead by the Holy Spirit (his Spirit), your spirit will agree with the word of God because the word says the Holy Spirit doesn't act on his accord, but the Father (God).

When your flesh is speaking, it’ll want what it wants despite of the situation. I believe one of the best ways to train your flesh to be obedient to your spirit is to fast, and to read the word of God. By fasting, you are denying your flesh (your body) the essentials, food. Jesus fasted after being baptized and before performing miracles and preaching. Why? Because he understood the importance of keeping his flesh under submission to his spirit. Galatians 5, tells us that a person cannot live by their flesh and live by their spirit.

One of the most important thing that I've learned is that you have to believe that the Holy Spirit is in you, and not demons. The enemy will try to convince you that it's your flesh, or an evil spirit, especially when you start speaking in tongues. The enemy knows that if he can get you to fear, he can cause confusion. Stand on this promise that Jesus gave in Luke 11:11-13..."Which of you fathers, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead? Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion? If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!”

Enemy
The Bible tells us that Satan comes to steal, kill, and destroy. Anytime you notice yourself stressed, worried, anxious, hurrying for an answer, exhibiting the fruit of the flesh as described in Galatians 5, you can almost be sure it’s the enemy. Satan uses fear to try and overcome you. Fear is the opposite of faith. He knows that if you fear the problem, that the promises of God will not take place in your life. His hope is to get you to doubt, not have faith and to quit on God.

In the words of brother Hagin, ‘if you’re in a hurry , it is most likely not God speaking.” God doesn’t live in time, we do. Hurrying is symbolic of self/flesh. If you’re hurrying it is probably because you’re operating out of fear and not faith. “Therefore thus saith the Lord God, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believeth shall not make haste.” Isaiah 28:16.  When you truly have casted your cares on the Lord, you don't have them, he does. Who do you trust more with your cares, him or you? Btw, cast is defined as throw (something) forcefully in a specified direction. God wants us to throw our cares on him. That's the only way he can resolve them for us!!!
